Overview:
I was very excited to try Zinc Bistro since Chef Matt Carter use to work under Thomas Keller at French Laundry. Zinc Bistro is located in Kierland Commons which is full of both chain shops and chain restaurants. Just walking in to the restaurant you forget you are in the middle of all of these chains (until you sit down and see Z Gallerie out the window). The atmosphere is great and quite different from what I have seen in Scottsdale. Very warm, french bistro feel.
We got the roasted dungeness crab and mushroom crepes with lobster sauce for the appetizer and it was very good and very light which was great. The entrees we ordered were the Scottish salmon with black truffles and the filet with foie gras. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the white beans were a great addition to the dish. The filet had a lot of great flavor but it wasn't a good cut of meat. Our side dish was the foie gras risotto port reduction which was also very good.
We ordered the chocolate souffle with Grand Marnier for dessert, we ordered it before we even ordered our entree so it would be ready in time, but they forgot to put the order in. When it finally did arrive, it wasn't really worth waiting for. I have been fortunate this year to have had some amazing souffles and this just didn't quite measure up. Not bad just not something I would re-order.
Overall, there were some great dishes and given the atmosphere and the few options for a truly unique restaurant in that area, I would recommend it.
