Overview:
So I am not going to change my "recommended" status for Pump Room, only because I have had countless lunches and brunches that have left me extremely happy and satisfied. I had yet to be able to score a weekend dinner reservation, and finally went Saturday night. My will was tested on all counts, most importantly on service and on food quality. To make a group wait 45 minutes beyond a 930pm reservation happens, but you dont continually explain that the table is eating dessert, paying the bill, having coffee, etc. Then there was no apology once we were sat, nor did a manager ever stop by.
The waiter took so long we had to ask if we had one, then took 20 mins to deliver our drinks.
I was sad the pork chop had been removed, so I inquired about the crispy suckling pig. The waiter told us it was his favorite thing. 3 of us ordered it. It was not at all what was described. It was almost a loaf of pork rillete with something on top that was hardly crispy. Not one of us finished it, yet nobody asked us how we liked our food, nor commented on the obvious fact plates were still full. We were so far behind schedule I did not take the time to complain, but canceled the dinner reservation I had in November through my phone.
This visit was a huge fail on all counts. I will, though, give it another chance, because I cannot resist the turkey sandwich at lunch. Pump Room, if you are going to book out 3 months, at least make the visit pleasant and memorable and worthy of our patience.
